Description

THIS SR. PACKARD STANDS OUT! STRAIGHT 8 POWER, SUICIDE DOORS, BEAUTIFUL IN AND OUT!

Featuring a lengthy wheelbase, not just a pair, but a full quartet of suicide doors, and a collection of art-deco-inspired curvature that's truly museum-worthy, this 1936 Packard Eight Club Sedan 1401 is the embodiment of vintage cool. Its deep blue paint captures your attention almost immediately and as you look closer, you'll see that both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the chrome brightwork, are in solid shape and all four wire wheels, wrapped with period-correct whitewall tires, are free from any curb rash that might distract from their visual impact. And check out the pair of fog lights perched below the front grille, and that antique travel trunk mounted in back.

The accompanying interior is in clean condition, with tan cloth upholstery that's still ready for plenty more miles of enjoyment and carpeting that's free of any major discoloration and features a pair of aftermarket rubber floor mats. Climb in, take your position behind the wheel and you'll find factory gauges inside the instrument cluster, still functional and easily readable behind their clear lenses. A factory-style steering wheel is still perched on the column, and a lengthy, well-fitted shifter sits within easy reach to navigate this Packard through its gears. The window glass surrounding the cabin is also in good form, giving you plenty of visibility when you take this venerable ride out on the road.

Have a look inside the expansive engine compartment and you'll find a period-correct 320-cubic-inch, straight eight-cylinder standing by. Despite its considerable age, this engine runs surprisingly well, especially once it's warmed up. Fed by a Stromberg two-barrel carburetor, it starts up easily, holds a smooth idle and pairs with a period-correct 3-speed manual transmission that still runs through its gears with no issues. The compartment has its stock configuration still intact, apart from a more modern 12-volt electrical system that has been added in the interest of increased dependability, along with a wrapped exhaust system to keep temperatures down beneath the hood. This outstanding classic provides a much more solid driving experience than you might expect. Once on the road it tracks nice and straight and its set of drum brakes offer reassuring stopping ability.
